It's homework time!

When your child enters first grade, suddenly there is this thing called homework. Emma received her very first homework assignment today. She was very excited at first. Then reality kicked in...as you can see from these photos!

She only had about ten minutes of work to do...just some vocabulary words she had to copy. They give the kids homework on Tuesdays and Thursdays which isn't too bad. But if she's this exhausted from doing ten minutes of homework now, what are we going to do a few years from now when she has two hours of homework every night?!

Oh how I love uniforms!!! So adorable! Sorry Emma, gone are the carefree days of a kindergartener and preschooler. Homework is one of many UNFAIR things in life.

These photos are too cute. My 1st graders homework doesn't start for another week; she'll have 15-20 minutes 4 nights a week. My 5th grader has had homework since the first day of school; last night she worked for 3 hours. I think I'm more exhausted by it than she is.

Hehehehe - Donna those pictures speak a thousand words! The only homework Jade and Jasmine have had thus far is reading - we are 3 weeks into school (mind you Jasmine is in PreK) . . . we have a couple more weeks before Jade starts math homework and spelling tests - oh the joy!! I'm sure Emma will do fine once she gets back into a routine!

First grade is such a big transition and such a stretch for kids, I am sure that is why you've seen some less than desirable behavior. It really does get better after the first few weeks. You will see an amazing leap in her academic progress this year, it usually occurs around January and then she will be off and running. I love this incredible year of growth, that's why I teach first grade.

My first grader keeps telling me that first grade is SO MUCH HARDER than kindergarten! Love the photos and her uniform -- too cute!

I so love the sequence of these pics. Emma is too, too cute.

Tell her to stick with it and keep up the great work.

I teach first grade and my students have about 15 min. of homework on Mon, Tues and Thur. They complain, too. I think it goes with the territory : )

Homework is even fun in 6th grade - ohhh, for about 3 days, then they start counting the days till weekends, Christmas break - and the next summer. Poor Emma, but she'll learn homework can be tough on the mommy's too!
