Sorry for the absence...

...we had a wonderful Christmas, but not so much after that. When we got home this weekend from spending the holiday with my parents, we discovered our house had been broken into (along with several of our neighbors.) My computer and a bunch a camera stuff was stolen. They also slashed the phone and cable lines, smashed our motion detector lights and crow-barred the window open so that it's damaged and we can't close it now. All out drawers were emptied on the floor and there were muddy footprints all over, so that was a mess too.

But we weren't there, for which I am grateful, and are safe now, which is the important thing. The possessions can be replaced. The only thing I am heartbroken over is that nearly every picture I have taken of Emma was on my computer. While I have printed many of them and have some saved on CDs, most are gone forever. It's sad...

Anyway, I'll be having a fun couple of days on the phone with insurance folks, the phone and cable companies, etc.

I'll try to post some of our Christmas photos from my work computer when I get time. Hope you all had a fun (and safe) holiday!

Oh Donna - sorry to hear about your break-in - I would be devestated.

Glad you're back and you and Emma had a nice Christmas.

I am so sorry for you and Emma. It sucks! I hope they catch them soon. I had a smaller version happen a few years ago and it was scary walking in with my daughter Elizabeth and not knowing what was inside. We were only gone a few hours though so the robbers couldn't do as much damage. We too lost a camera and a laptop. My online journal was on that laptop along with pictures. Since then I have bought new memory cards instead of overwriting the old.

Oh, what awful news. I hope that the investigators will be able to sort this out and find the culprits. I also wish you luck dealing with the insurance companies. On a side note, you can transfer your blog into a book through Blurb. That way you'll have some of your pictures...just a thought.
hang in there.

Donna!

Oh my, I am SO sorry!!! The one blessing is that you guys weren't there and no one was harmed. Bless your hearts. How is Emma holding up? Is she scared?

I am so sorry about losing your photos. I hope they catch whoever did that and perhaps you can salvage some pics.

I'll be thinking about you guys!

I'm so sorry to hear this! We're traveling and it's my great fear to come home to a scene like you did. I've been paranoid about losing our photos because of computer crash, fire or theft so we started backing up our hard drive and taking a copy of it to my husband's work for safe keeping. It's not a perfect plan but it's as good as I can think of for now. I think there are online services that you can back up to also but I've not really looked into them very much. I hope you have photos on this blog that can fill in some of the missing spots. We print our blog each year as a family album so all the pictures are in printed form but (even better) are stored at www.blurb.com in case we ever need to reprint the book. I'm thinking of making a book of our vital documents just so we can have a copy of them in case of fire or theft.

Anyway, you're right that what is most important is that you're all safe! Hopefully they'll catch the people who did this and recover some of your property.

:::hugs:::

Oh no Donna!! That is awful and how scary for you and Emma. So glad that you weren't at home and had a nice holiday before you got home. So sorry that you have to go through all this -- not the best way to end the year!

Take care.

Well that really stinks! I had my wallet stolen a while ago and a week after that someone broke into my shed. While nothing of value was taken, I felt violated. Sorry to hear about your pictures...that is terrible. I'm happy you are all safe and sound. Good luck getting everything settled.

This sucks. I can only imagine how devastated you must be. That's a tough loss.

My heart goes out to you and Emma. My best friend just had her home burglarized 2 weeks ago and it's been awfully tough on her and her oldest daughter emotionally.

Wishing you peace (and patience with insurance & other companies) over the upcoming days and weeks.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your photos and so glad that you and Emma weren't home at the time. We've had some recent break ins in our usually quiet neighborhood as well; I think it's a sign of the times. In addition to making a Blurb book of your blog photos, maybe you've sent some photos by e-mail to friends and family and could retrieve some that way.

I'm really sorry to hear this Donna.
That they took all your photos just really sucks. But you're right... if you can find one little bright spot in all of it... at least you weren't home.

I am so sorry Donna. That is horrible.

My house was broken into back in 2000 and they took our computer too. We lost a lot of important stuff. It is such a violation of your privacy, and I'm sorry you have to go through this.

Donna, I hope that your computer can be found. I know I would be devistated too. I hope that you can get all resolved quickly with insurance and such. Blessings.

Oh Donna! I am just getting caught up and I am so sorry to hear this.

I hope they catch up with the individuals responsible!

The feeling of invasion is so horrible.

Wishing you all things GOOD in the new year.
